Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Restoration

This was a very interesting restoration of a beautiful Ford Sierra RS Cosworth. The man behind the project at Ford was Stuart Turner who oversaw the European motor sport department. He was brought into Ford as they were no longer competitive at motor sport. Ford paired up with their long time association with Cosworth motors.
They used a twin cam 16 valve engine better know as the Pinto. They managed to get 220 hp out of the street version and 300 hp out of the race car which now a days seems not that much for a turbo charged car. A Borg-Warner T5 gearbox was used in countless cars over the years. Its 0 to 60 time was a somewhat disappointing 6.5 seconds but as many people will remember it was the choice of car of the police to catch criminals in. They of course had theirs tuned to gain more speed. Three colours were available , Moonstone Blue ,Silver and Black.

It was later succeeded by the Sierra RS500 Cosworth which 500 were made and good examples now fetch well into 6 figure sums. The engine produces 485bhp and a little bit more with some modification. The 0 to 60 time was around 5 seconds.
Which ever way you look at it, this car is part of motor sport history, and we feel very privileged that we had the opportunity to restore this car putting Classic Car Lab forever in the history of this car.
It was stored in a garage for many years with bits missing off it and it had suffered micro blistering to the paint work so all the paint had to be taken back to bare metal. All the Cosworths that we have re sprayed have all retained their original colour which in some cases will add value to your car if it is ever sold. The underside of this Cosworth was in quite bad shape. We had to scrape off the horrible old wax oil that someone had put on and our aim was to match exactly the old under seal that was put on by Ford. We identified the sealant that was used and then applied it, so it was a perfect match. We always recommend under sealing your car to protect it.
New exhaust pipes were fitted along with new disks and pads and also new fuel lines that had perished.
A re commissioning of the whole car was needed along with the final classic tuning of the engine. This is a fabulous example of a Yorkshire classic car restoration completed at Classic Car Lab.
