A collection of Jaguar e type Restorations

This project section is to showcase the various types of e type restorations we have done over many years. It covers every aspect of restoring an e type from tuning, re spraying, interior restoration, engine rebuild and a full restoration.

At Classic Car Lab one of the largest amounts of Classic car restorations that we do is restoring the Jaguar E Type.  We are the best Yorkshire car restorers as quoted in one of our google reviews. We would like to think that we are the best Yorkshire classic car restorers however please visit us and decide for yourself.

Our services range from a full restoration to a simple service. In this section I will show different types of Jaguar e types that we have restored over the years. You will also find the various E types in the Project sections which will go into greater detail of the type of restoration involved.  However, for this section I have grouped several e type restorations together so you can see the wide range of Jaguar e type restorations and services that we offer in Yorkshire at Classic Car Lab.

To give a little bit of background to our Yorkshire restorations of the Jaguar e type we cover all the series of Jaguar e types. Our Yorkshire car restorers know the Jaguar e type in detail as we have done so many over the years at Classic Car Lab.

A bit of background knowledge goes a long way in understanding and restoring e type Jaguars. We restore the whole range of E Type jaguars from Series 1 to series 3. Which spanned a total production of 15 years hence why there are so many and the fact that we in Yorkshire restore so many e type Jaguars.

The Jaguar E type is considered by many to be the greatest Classic car of its time. It was built due to the D Type achieving such great success and jaguar saw a gap in the market and filled it in with the beautiful E Type. The E Type was first displayed at the Geneva motor show on March 14 1961.The launch price of a Jaguar e type was around £2500, in todays money that would be £40,000. Not a bad deal really. If you were lucky enough to get one of the first flat floor outside bonnet hinged Jaguar, a fully restored soft top e type Jaguar would be in the region of £300,000. Our Yorkshire Car restorers have restored flat floor e types as you will see in the various photographs.  The First E Type is the jewel in the crown for Jaguars, however that does not make it the best. For practicality and usability, the series 3 is much better but if you are looking for a pure investment you should look at the earlier e Type Jaguars.

There are 3 different types of series of Jaguars. The first series is somewhat ambiguous as it falls into so many different categories as in different floors, engine sizes and years. We have restored many Jaguars E Type Series1, and we feel the best one for usability is the 4.2 L engine.

Series 1 (1961-68)

Some notations you may find useful are the following.

FHC Fixed Head Coupe

OTS Open Two-Seater

Within this category there are 2 different types of engines a 3.8 and a 4.2. The first E Type had hinges on the outside of the bonnet and welded louvres on top of the bonnet and had a flat floor.

Later, the hinges were removed, and the bonnet louvres were no longer welded and retained a flat floor. Then the car still in series 1 moved onto not having a flat floor but still retaining the 3.8 L engine and it also had a partial synchromesh gear change. This all took place between 1961 and 1964.

Between 1961 and 1967 the engine was upgraded to a 4.2 l engine a better transmission and many better additions such as seats that reclined, a better electrical system and more leg room. In our opinion as we have restored so many classic cars and Jaguar E types in our Yorkshire Classic car restoration company that the 4.2 is a much more usable Jaguar E type if you want a series 1. As you can see the range is vast and it really depends on what you are looking for in an E Type series 1. Our classic car specialists can help to advise you on any restoration work or advice in which car is best for you, so please do not hesitate to call. You will also see from the photos we specialise in restoring Jaguar series one and offer the following services for a Jaguar series 1.  We can offer full and part restorations, car resprays, car tuning, interior re trims.

Series 2 (1968-71)

We have always considered Jaguar E type Series 2 a very good compromise if you are purchasing an E type. It is the good first step into the e type world as most of the issues were sorted out by the time a series 2 came along. There are also plenty of them, which makes them slightly cheaper to purchase as they are usually cheaper than a series 1.  However, saying all that the condition of the car and what type of restoration you require will have an impact upon the car you decide to purchase. Every car is different, so it is best to speak to one of our technicians to discuss your needs. Over the years of restoring classic cars in Yorkshire the largest amount of classic car re sprays is probably the E type Jaguar, so if you wish to re spray your E type Jaguar or have it restored, we can restore Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 e type jaguars. We can even restore and service light weight E types and competition E types.

The series 2 jaguar introduced a number of design changes such as the absence of headlamp covers, a wrap around rear bumper, an enlarged front grill and the tail lights positioned below the bumper. Twin electric fans were added to help cooling along with seat head restraints.

Series 3 (1971 -74)

At our Classic Car restoration workshop in Yorkshire, we would say that the Series 3 e type is a very accomplished car. It came with a new 5.3L Jaguar engine. Power steering was added as standard thank goodness, as well as automatic transition. Jaguar had managed to achieve 0 to 60 in less than 7 seconds. This was the fastest time of all the series of e Types excluding the competition and modified ones. Series 1 and 2 can be made to go faster with a bit of tweaking and our specialist knowledge of classic car tuning especially tuning e type Jaguars.  However, the series 3 is the heaviest of them all and the most complex when it comes to engines. We have done engine rebuilds on the series 3 e type Jaguars as you will be able to see from the photos. It is the most complex of them all however, we have gained many years of knowledge of the e type Jaguar.

You can see from the production numbers we get a massive amount of requests to restore, re spray, rebuild engines, interior restoration, classic car tuning, of e types series 1, e type series 2 and e type series 3. We often get asked at our Yorkshire car restoration company what colour in Jaguar E Types do you restore the most in? Without a doubt its red. Our personal favourite colour is a Cream shell with red seats and a red hood.

E types are the barometer of the classic car market and the prices are a good indication of what is happening in the market place.
