Aston Martin DB6 restoration

A fabulous Yorkshire classic car restoration.

This Aston martin DB6 needed a respray and a full engine restoration. It was originally silver, and we repainted it in silver. Various areas of work needed to be done on the aluminium sections. The sills were in very bad shape and on various areas of aluminium oxidisation had penetrated sections of the body work.

We like to recommend taking the car down to bear metal as you never know what lies beneath. You can then apply a protective layer of modern-day epoxy that will protect the car.

The hours involved in filling and flatting and shaping are essential. There is no short cut.

In this instance the engine needed a rebuild. This involved stripping it down and having a look at the condition of the pistons and rings etc as the engine was not preforming correctly.

Our suspicions were correct. New pistons, piston rings, head gasket, (copper) and liners were replaced. It also had an unleaded conversion and to make sure there were no further issues with the engine we re skimmed the block. The big end was replaced as well as a crank shaft oil seal which are often a problem with the straight 6 engines. We dismantled the gearbox and replaced the clutch as well as new servos. New brake pipes along with new calipers and pads were fitted.

The underneath was treated with a protective layer of gravitex which combats against water and salt. A new much better exhaust system was fitted along with refurbishing the inlet manifolds. New springs and shocks were also fitted.

The inside was in reasonable condition. All the car needed was a good deep clean and a re-connolising of the navy-blue leather. Only one part of the interior needed restoration and that was the headlining.

The instrument binnacles only needed be re calibrated and a good polish and they were as good as new. All chrome was replaced with new, as well as new windows as they looked very worn when they arrived. The DB6 is the perfect Aston Martin as it has more leg room and performs better than a DB5.
