Morris Minor Restoration

Project Information
Project Description:
Morris Minor Convertible Restoration Yorkshire – Full Classic Car Restoration by Classic Car Lab
Bringing “Maude” Back to Life at Our Yorkshire Restoration Workshop
The Morris Minor is one of Britain’s most loved classic cars. Charming, simple and full of character, the Morris Minor has become a symbol of post-war British motoring and remains one of the most recognisable classics on the road today.
This particular Morris Minor Convertible — affectionately known as “Maude” by her owner — arrived at Classic Car Lab Yorkshire in very poor condition and requiring a comprehensive restoration throughout.
At first glance, it was immediately obvious the little Morris had lived a hard life.
Numerous panels were missing, the body had suffered heavily from corrosion, the engine was unreliable and the car generally looked tired and neglected after many years of use and ageing.
But underneath all of that was a car worth saving.
Projects like this are exactly what classic car restoration is all about:
taking a tired and deteriorated vehicle and gradually bringing it back to life piece by piece until its personality and charm begin to reappear once again.
Full Strip Down & Chassis Restoration
As with most major restorations undertaken at Classic Car Lab Yorkshire, the Morris was stripped completely down to its chassis so the true condition of the vehicle could be properly assessed.
At our Yorkshire classic car restoration workshop, we always believe proper restoration starts with honesty and thorough preparation.
Only by dismantling the vehicle fully can hidden corrosion, structural deterioration and previous repairs be identified correctly.
Once stripped, the body and chassis components were blasted back to bare metal to remove corrosion and contamination accumulated over many years.
Corrosion Protection & Epoxy Priming
Following the blasting process, the shell and associated components were protected using modern two-pack epoxy primer systems.
At Classic Car Lab Yorkshire, we strongly recommend epoxy protection on major restorations because it provides significantly improved corrosion resistance compared with the original materials available when many classic cars were first manufactured.
This process creates a far more durable foundation for paintwork while helping preserve the vehicle long into the future.
Protecting classic cars properly is just as important as restoring them cosmetically.
Classic Car Paintwork & Pearl Metallic Red Respray
One of the most dramatic transformations during the restoration came from the paintwork itself.
The owner chose a stunning pearl metallic red finish which completely transformed the character of the Morris Minor while still perfectly suiting the lines and personality of the car.
At Classic Car Lab Yorkshire, we undertake everything from bare-metal classic car resprays and concours paintwork through to fabrication, corrosion repair and specialist refinishing for classic and modern classic vehicles.
The preparation stage alone involved countless hours of refinement, alignment and detailing to ensure the final finish displayed the depth and shine the owner was hoping for.
Once polished and completed, the Morris looked absolutely stunning.
The rich pearl metallic paint gave “Maude” a vibrant personality while retaining all the charm that makes Morris Minor Convertibles so loved today.
Engine Rebuild & Mechanical Restoration
Mechanically, the Morris required substantial restoration and recommissioning work throughout.
The engine was fully rebuilt and refreshed to improve both reliability and drivability while preserving the original character of the vehicle.
Mechanical restoration work included:
- Engine rebuild
- New seals and gaskets
- Clutch replacement
- Brake restoration
- Wiring loom replacement
- Electrical refurbishment
- Engine tuning and setup
- General servicing and recommissioning
A complete new wiring loom and electrical system refurbishment ensured the car started and operated reliably once again — an incredibly important part of restoring older British classics properly.
At Classic Car Lab Yorkshire, we believe classic cars should not only look beautiful, but should also drive reliably and confidently for their owners to genuinely enjoy.
Interior Restoration & Final Detailing
The interior was also restored as part of the project, with new seats fitted to complement the freshly restored exterior and mechanical systems.
The finishing touches are often what truly bring a restoration together, and in this case the final detailing stage made a huge difference.
After extensive polishing and refinement work, “Maude” once again sparkled exactly as a restored British convertible should.
Seeing the transformation from tired and deteriorated project car to fully restored classic was enormously rewarding for the entire team.
A Wonderful Yorkshire Classic Car Restoration
This Morris Minor Convertible restoration perfectly demonstrates that classic car restoration is not only about prestigious marques or high-value vehicles.
Sometimes the most rewarding restorations are the cars people feel emotionally connected to.
Cars like the Morris Minor carry enormous charm, nostalgia and personality, and saving vehicles such as this helps preserve an important part of British motoring history.
At Classic Car Lab Yorkshire, every restoration matters — whether it is an Aston Martin DB6, a Jaguar E-Type or a much-loved Morris Minor named Maude.
