Jaguar E Type series 3 Restoration

As classic car restorations go this car was relatively straight forward. The aim of this series 3 Jaguar E type was to respray. As we have completed many Jaguar e type restorations we are very aware of the pitfalls that we may encounter. We have been resorting classic cars in Yorkshire for many years and with time comes experience and knowledge.

There were several “fisheyes” in the paintwork that had to be removed.

Fisheyes resemble a number of little White or Gray dots in the paintwork. This is often caused by silicone contamination. Silicone contamination can be present on painters clothing as they enter a paint booth and then it goes airborne and lands on the newly painted car causing a white dot. If the preparation of the car is not correctly cleaned before the paint is applied, then you will have fisheyes present in the paint work. Even low surface energy particles such as wax, oil and grease can cause fisheyes in the paint work.

This is why it is advisable if you are thinking of respraying a classic or performance car , it is worth investigating to see how clean the paint area is and how good their spraying system is. A good car respray centre should be clean and tidy with an up to date air compressor as this will go some way into providing an excellent paint and lacquer finish to your car.

Ask the car respray garage when was the last time the air compressor had a service. The reason for this is if not serviced there can be contaminants in the pipe work which can cause fisheyes and other particles to land in the paint whilst respraying. In this instance you pay for what you get.

Worse still is micro blistering which at first cannot be seen in the paintwork as it must have the correct conditions to develop. Micro blistering is moisture that is trapped between the primer and paint. Damp conditions cause it to develop so it is advisable to get a car respray that offers you a guarantee such as Classic Car lab and Sports Car lab so you have peace of mind if this develops in the future when adverse conditions occur. Once we had flattened down the areas of concern and welded some areas that had corrosion, It was time to put on primer. After the primer is set a further sanding and cleaning is necessary before we could respray this classic car.

Once the Jaguar is dry many more hours are spent flatting the car before a final polish and wax. I think you will agree this is a fantastic classic car respray carried out in Yorkshire at classic car lab.
