Jensen Interceptor Mark 1 Restoration

Project Information
Project Description:
Jensen Interceptor Restoration Yorkshire – A Bespoke Modern Classic Reimagined by Classic Car Lab
A Unique Yorkshire Classic Car Restoration Inspired by Performance, Style & Individuality
The Jensen Interceptor has always been one of Britain’s most charismatic grand touring cars. Combining muscular styling, handcrafted British coachbuilding and powerful American V8 performance, the Jensen Interceptor perfectly captured the spirit of 1970s motoring.
This particular Jensen Interceptor arrived at Classic Car Lab Yorkshire with a very different brief from a traditional concours restoration.
The owner wanted something unique.
Not simply restored — reimagined.
The vision was to create a usable, reliable and striking modern classic inspired by the atmosphere and styling of the Fast & Furious films, while still retaining the unmistakable character and soul of the original Jensen.
Projects like this are where creativity, craftsmanship and engineering all come together.
At our Yorkshire classic car restoration workshop, we specialise not only in traditional factory-correct restorations, but also bespoke classic car builds tailored specifically around the personality and vision of the owner.
This Jensen became one of the most enjoyable and unusual restorations we have undertaken.
Bare-Metal Restoration & Structural Rebuilding
Once the Jensen arrived at our Yorkshire restoration workshop, it quickly became clear just how extensive the work would need to be.
Years of corrosion had severely weakened key structural areas of the vehicle, particularly the sills and lower sections of the body shell. In some areas, there was remarkably little solid structure remaining, making it surprising the vehicle was still roadworthy.
The restoration therefore began with a complete strip down and bare-metal assessment.
Every layer of paint, filler and previous repair work was removed so we could properly assess the true condition of the shell. As with many classic car restorations, uncovering the hidden issues early was essential to rebuilding the vehicle correctly rather than simply masking problems.
Hand Fabrication & Structural Welding
Large sections of the Jensen required extensive fabrication and reconstruction work.
At Classic Car Lab Yorkshire, we undertake specialist welding and fabrication for classic and modern classic vehicles, including structural steel repairs, sill replacement, chassis repairs and bespoke metal fabrication.
For this project, major sections of the sill structures and lower bodywork had to be fabricated and rebuilt by hand to restore both strength and alignment to the car.
This was not a cosmetic repair.
It was a full structural rebuild.
Every repair section was carefully shaped, trial-fitted and welded into place before the shell was strengthened, aligned and prepared for the next stage of restoration.
The aim throughout was to preserve the integrity of the Jensen while simultaneously creating a stronger, more usable and more refined vehicle for modern driving.
A Bespoke Vision Inspired by Fast & Furious
What made this restoration especially memorable was the owner’s vision for the finished car.
A lifelong enthusiast of the Fast & Furious films, the client wanted subtle inspiration drawn from the style and atmosphere of the movies while avoiding anything overly modern or exaggerated.
The challenge was to create something bespoke and aggressive while still respecting the elegance and rarity of the Jensen Interceptor itself.
Working closely with the client throughout the build process, we explored numerous design ideas, finishes and upgrades to create a truly individual classic car restoration.
This collaborative approach is something we pride ourselves on at Classic Car Lab. Every major restoration project is personal, and we work closely with owners to ensure the finished vehicle reflects both their vision and the character of the car itself.
Modern Upgrades & Improved Usability
One of the major goals of this Jensen Interceptor restoration was usability.
Classic cars should not simply look beautiful — they should also be enjoyable and confidence-inspiring to drive.
A number of sympathetic upgrades were therefore incorporated into the build to improve reliability, comfort and overall driving dynamics while maintaining the classic feel of the car.
These included improvements to:
- Lighting systems
- Steering feel and drivability
- Braking performance
- General reliability
- Road usability
- Mechanical refinement
The result was a Jensen Interceptor capable of being driven and enjoyed regularly rather than simply admired in storage.
This philosophy of blending heritage craftsmanship with modern usability sits perfectly with the Classic Car Lab ethos — Heritage to Modern.
Paintwork, Detailing & Final Assembly
Once the fabrication and structural restoration work had been completed, the Jensen entered the body preparation and paint stage.
At our Yorkshire classic car paint and bodywork workshop, we undertake everything from bare-metal classic car resprays and corrosion repairs to concours refinishing and bespoke custom paintwork.
Extensive preparation work was carried out to ensure the body lines remained sharp and consistent throughout the vehicle. Panel gaps, alignment and shut lines were repeatedly checked during assembly before final paint was applied.
The completed Jensen combined classic British muscle car presence with bespoke modern touches, giving the vehicle a truly unique identity unlike any other Interceptor on the road.
A Truly Bespoke Yorkshire Classic Car Restoration
This Jensen Interceptor restoration perfectly demonstrates the versatility of Classic Car Lab Yorkshire.
Some clients want absolute factory originality.
Others want a more personal interpretation of a classic car.
Our role is to combine craftsmanship, engineering and creativity to deliver restorations that exceed expectations while always respecting the vehicle itself.
From major structural reconstruction and hand fabrication through to bespoke upgrades, paintwork and final detailing, this project became far more than a restoration — it became a completely individual grand tourer built around the owner’s passion and personality.
